Getting Ready

Every year brings a wonderful excitement for students and teachers!  Who will be in my class? What are we going to do? Will everyone get along? So many questions come to mind.  Yet with the excitement also come the jitters at the same time.

Each year about the beginning of August, I start having dreams about school.  Usually, these dreams involve losing students on a field trip, disappointing students or parents, or the students not making it to lunch. Lucky to say...none of these have ever happened in real life! Ok, so maybe I have disappointed some students when they realize we only have 2 recesses a day instead of the 3 they are used to from first grade.  LOL!  But all in all, I have to say, my jitters are quickly set to ease as the students arrive for the ice cream social a couple of days before school starts.  The nervous anticipation quickly gives way to the excitement! My summer comes to an end, but is replaced with hugs and smiles from the kids that are now entrusted to me for the next 180 school days.  Welcome to second grade!  The year you will work harder than you thought you could, learn more than you thought possible, and become part of a caring community that supports all of our needs!
