It is a pleasure to have you visit! My name is Cari Rothfus and I have been employed with West Des Moines Community Schools since 1998. I started as an associate working in the Kindergarten rooms at Western Hills Elementary. In August 1999, I was hired as a Kindergarten teacher in the same school. I taught half-day Kindergarten (yet full time) there until I moved to full day Kindergarten at Clive in 2005. I taught 2 years of full day Kindergarten and then decided to step it up a little and try second grade, still at Clive. Which brings us to today...my 9th year as a Clive second grade teacher! I have seen many changes along the way, but still love my adventures with the kids that I get to call my own for 180 days!
Although being a teacher is a passion and a major role in my life, I also enjoy many other aspects as well. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. Most of my family is located in the Urbandale area, with the exception of my little brother who lives in Australia. I have been lucky enough to visit him twice while he has been there...and hope to go more! I play recreational slow-pitch softball and enjoy hitting the gym every once in a while as well. Many of my students will ask, "Do you have kids of your own?" To which I reply, "No...unless you believe that pets are kids like I do. I have a Rottweiler named Arya. Plus, I consider you my kids now!"
